The
Hurricane Wars is a dense romantasy that I'll admit I initially struggled to
get into. There's such extensive world building that at times it not only feels
overwhelming but stalls the progress of the story. Characters, factions,
countries, and terms are thrown at you nonstop for the first third of the book,
that for a while I feel like drudging through the book. That all being said, I
admit I'm fully invested in the two main characters and looking forward to the
next book.
Talasyn and
Alaric are on opposite sides of a vicious war that has decimated the lives and
countries of countless people. When a bigger threat looms on the horizon they
must form an apprehensive alliance to save their people.
Talasyn is
tough female soldier who is well written. She may have years of war under her
belt as a soldier but she's still just a young woman at heart and it shows.
Alaric is an interesting and multidimensional character that you feel instantly
drawn to. Together they have great chemistry that really pulls you in.
There's a
lot to be overwhelmed by in the Hurricane Wars but the romance and characters
are worth learning all of the intricacies of the authors detailed world
building.
