Review:
The Love of
My Afterlife is a was a wonderful, heartwarming romance that I could not put
down. Normally I'm not a big romcom fan but this book swept me off my feet.
In this
novel, Delphie dies alone in her apartment, a 26 year old virgin, from choking
on a burger. She wakes up in the afterlife, where she meets her soulmate, who,
it turns out, is just there temporarily and under anesthesia. If she can find
this man again in 10 days, and get him to give her a kiss, then she gets to
live out her life; if not she has to return to the afterlife.
Not only
does this book have depth, but it is also moving and riotously funny. I
absolutely fell in love with the cast of this book. There isn't an
uninteresting or unlovable character in this book. Delphie herself sees
tremendous character growth, which is rare for a book that spans 10 days.
You'll be rooting for her every step of the way. I found every moment of this
fast paced romantic comedy to be fully engaging. Really, I can't say enough
about how great this book is.
Usually I
only really read horror, thrillers, historical fiction, and fantasy novels but
for some reason I decided to take a chance on this novel, and I am glad I did
because it's the most heartwarming novel I've read in the last several years.
There wasn't one thing I didn't like about this book. If the premise seems even
moderately interesting, then definitely pick this one up, whether or not
romance is your thing.
